Honduras Facts

1. Has a population of about 8 million people. Half the population is under 15 years, the cities are growing rapidly

2. Gained Independence from Spain on September 15th 1821 and joined the Federal Republic of Central America. The country declared Independence on November 5th 1838.

3. 90% of the population is Ladino mixed European and Indigenous. 7% are , indigenous tribes. 3% are black and white.

4. is about 112,482 square kilometers or 43,728 square miles. El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala border the country. The country has a small Pacific Coast and a large Caribbean Coast.

5. Famous Hondurans include America Ferrera, Carlos Mencia and Steve Van Buren.

6. People say the country has three capitals: Tegucigalpa the political capital, San Pedro Sula the working capital and La Ceiba the fun capital.
